In the wake of Russia's full-scale invasion of my home country, “From East to West” captures the compelling stories of Ukrainian refugees who embarked on a treacherous journey in the early weeks of the conflict and the months that followed. As Ukrainians traversed borders, from Poland into Europe, this project illuminates the intricate dynamics of cultural representation, privacy rights, and the power of visual storytelling within an ecological perspective. It explores the moral principles guiding the portrayal of displaced individuals, the challenges of confidentiality, and the respectful depiction of their journeys toward safety and stability. Amidst the ongoing suffering of the Ukrainian people, who have endured the loss of homes, loved ones, and their freedom, "From East to West" emerges as a testament to their unwavering determination. Through this visual exploration, their voices are amplified and their resilience celebrated, inviting viewers to reflect on the moral and ethical implications of witnessing human struggles and our collective responsibility as a society.
